As you may be aware, the last few years we have selected a charity to donate to as a firm leading up-to Christmas. This year we have selected Feeding Families.
Feeding Families are a charity based here in Bishop Auckland and serving the North East providing food hampers to families in need for Christmas. Given the current pandemic affecting a huge number of people, we thought this would be a really worthy cause.
As a charity they usually provide around 2000 hampers but this year, they have had requests for over 7000 hampers so are in need of help.
Mitchells Grievson has registered as an official drop-off point so the public can also drop items in during our opening hours listed below. There are many drop off points throughout the North East though some business had listed themselves and are now closed due to lockdown - so worth checking to make sure they are open before you set off.
The charity has provided a suggested food list for collection points to give you some ideas what to buy:
- Sponge or Christmas pudding
- Custard or white sauce
- Gravy granules
- Cake (Christmas, Chocolate, Choc Rolls etc)
- Chocolate or sweets
- Mince pies
- Savoury snacks (crisps, nuts etc)
- Coffee and tea
- Tinned meats
- Chocolate biscuits
- Jam, marmalade, chocolate spread
- Part-baked bread
- Cranberry or apple sauce
- Squash, UHT, juice or non-alcoholic fizzy drinks
- Handwash
- Shampoo
- Shower gel
We have a large collection box in reception for any donations. If anyone would like to donate, even just one item this would be hugely appreciated! Please wear a mask when entering the building and adhere to social distancing.
Any donations would need to be made by the end of November to give them chance to collect all the donation boxes and pack up the hampers.
Mitchells Grievson Associate Claire Wilson said: “We hope to collect lots for the charity from staff, clients and the public so that local families can benefit from our donations. With everything that is going on through this pandemic it will be great if we can help bring a bit of joy to some families who are in need over Christmas.”
