Last Friday, Mitchells Grievson Chartered Accountants teamed up with MGL Wealth Management Ltd to host the second annual charity golf day in aid of Children with Cancer.
Twenty golfers took part in the event at Headlam Hall situated near Gainford, Darlington. The 9 hole golf course was again in immaculate condition and golfers only had themselves to blame for any poor performances.
Director of Mitchells Grieveson, Nigel Rea, who captained the winning team last year was again taking the competition seriously which was outlined by his team selection. However, his team came up short this year with fellow director Phil Harnby taking the spoils. Phil's winning team included Michael Watson, Neil Collingwood and Craig Dixon, who won by a 2-shot margin.
The nearest to the pin competition took place on the beautiful hole 7, a 116-yard par 3 which is aptly named The Pond. With a bottle of champagne up for grabs the pressure was clearly on. Phil Banks hit a cracking shot which pitched to around 9ft from the hole and he was leading the competition until the last fourball stepped up. St. James's Place Business Development Manager, Michael Kyle, who has recently undertaken a knee operation pulled out the pitching wedge and floated his ball over the pond with his ball stopping dead within 5ft of the hole to bag the bottle of bubbly.
Headlam Hall had kindly donated a 6-month membership which was raffled to raise funds for the charity. The winner, Chris Hutchinson very kindly decided that we should auction the prize off to raise yet more funds for the charity. The winning bidder was Lee Richards who managed to outbid Michael Kyle in a head to head battle.
Mitchells Grievson & MGL Wealth Management held the golf day to support Darlington Harriers in their fund-raising activities to raise much needed funds for Children with Cancer UK. The Harriers hold several events throughout the year including a Charity Comedy Night, 5km Race plus several athletes are running various Marathons. So far this year they have managed to raise in excess of £12,000 (including gift aid).
Nigel Rea, Director at Mitchells said: “Everyone really enjoyed the day and we raised much needed funds for Children with Cancer which is such a worthy cause. I'm looking forward to dusting the clubs off again next year.”
