We recently held our annual charity golf day in conjunction with MGL Wealth Management Ltd to raise money for MOVE Against Cancer.
The event was held at Headlam Hall which again was spectacular. The 9-hole golf course was turned out in immaculate condition, the food was delicious, and the venue and grounds were simply stunning.
International athlete and founder of MOVE Against Cancer, Gemma Hillier-Moses, joined us for the day along with her husband Lewis Moses who is a former GB Athlete turned coach and sports commentator which added yet more kudos to the event.
7 teams of 4 battled it out to win the prestigious Trophy under a form of Texas Scramble rules. Congratulations to the winning team which consisted of Gary Malsbury, Neil Thompson, Lee Richards and Andrew Park. They posted an impressive score of 2 under managing to bag 4 birdies.
The winning team captain, Gary Malsbury said: “It was a fantastic team effort with everyone contributing to the win and stepping up when necessary. I'm hoping I'll still be invited again next year after taking home the victory for a 2nd year in row. A great day was had by all and lots of money was raised for a superb charity.”
We held closest to the pin competitions on the 3rd hole and the signature hole 7 which is short par 3, shooting from an elevated tee down to a green which is surrounded by water. Congratulations to the nearest the pin competition winners Keith Bateman and Lewis Moses who hit some fabulous shots.
Gemma had prepared a short but inspirational speech to give everyone an insight into why she was compelled to form the charity. It is Gemma's vision to provide people with the support that she never received when she was diagnosed with cancer aged 24. Gemma is a huge advocate for keeping moving when living with and beyond cancer and through the work of MOVE Charity she hopes to support and inspire others that are affected by cancer, their family, friends and healthcare professionals to Move Against Cancer.
Nigel Rea, Director of Mitchells Grievson said: “Thanks for everyone who played and contributed towards raising almost £1,000 (including gift aid) so far. We will also be raising further funds for this fantastic charity when my wife Charlotte and I are running the Great North Run in September along with a few friends including Gary Malsbury and Gareth Billington who were gently 'persuaded' to run for the charity on the golf day”.
