Mitchells Grievson & MGL Wealth Management Charity Golf Day 2025

Mitchells Grievson Chartered Accountants and MGL Wealth Management were proud to host the 2025 Charity Golf Day on Friday, 9th May at the stunning Headlam Hall Hotel & Golf Course, in support of PAPYRUS – Prevention of Young Suicide.

With blue skies overhead and immaculate fairways underfoot, six enthusiastic teams took part in a competitive but friendly Texas Scramble tournament, all in the name of raising funds for a truly important cause. Playing under adjusted handicap rules (10% of combined individual handicaps), the new format made for a tightly contested competition — with just two shots separating the top four teams.

After 18 holes of spirited play, Team Hutchinson and Team Talman were tied for first place. To settle the deadlock, and in the spirit of good fun, the day ended with a dramatic putt-off competition. Each team member faced a challenging, long downhill putt — with the closest to the hole claiming the win. John Dixon rose to the occasion with a clutch performance that clinched victory for Team Hutchinson.

Winners – Team Hutchinson:

  • Chris Hutchinson (Captain)
  • John Dixon
  • Mark Caton
  • Gareth Billington

Runners-Up – Team Talman:

  • Barry Talman (Captain)
  • Dave Burton
  • Mark Elsdon
  • Ali Neville

There were also individual honours on the day. Nearest the Pin competitions saw John Dixon triumph on Hole 3, while James Caruthers impressed on the picturesque Pond Hole (Hole 7).

Guests enjoyed a superb two-course lunch following the competition, with generous hospitality and beautiful surroundings provided by the team at Headlam Hall, whose contributions — including the donation of a six-month golf membership as a prize — were invaluable in helping to raise vital funds.

Thanks to the generosity of our players and supporters, the event raised approximately £800 (with Gift Aid) for PAPYRUS, a charity committed to preventing young suicide through support services like their 24/7 HOPELINE.

Phil Harnby, Director at Mitchells Grievson, said:
“We are incredibly grateful to everyone who took part, donated, and supported this year's charity golf day. The turnout, camaraderie, and generosity were inspiring, and we're proud to support PAPYRUS in the vital work they do. A huge thank you to Headlam Hall for hosting us so brilliantly, and congratulations to all the teams for making it a day to remember.”

All proceeds from the day go directly to PAPYRUS, helping fund life-saving advice and support for young people in crisis. Every £10 raised can help fund a potentially life-saving contact.
